Special Exhibit + Fav Artist Fridays!

Love T. Nolan will be hosting a traveling exhibit again this year!! From October 20th - 24th, we'll have 7 silk panels featuring 24 paintings from The International Museum of Twenty-First Century Arts on display.

"The goal of TIMOTCA is to collect one piece of art from an artist in every country in the world to serve as a catalyst for peace and cultural understanding through the universal language of art."

TIMOTCA's Art Beyond Borders collection, "was born from a series of international exhibits that premiered at the United Nations Headquarters," and features work by renowned international artists nominated to participate by their respective countries.

Launched in the City of Honolulu on June 17, 2010 the exhibit began its national tour to over 75 cities across America. We are so excited to be another stop on its journey!

Now, on to this Friday's Fav Artist (after the jump)!
Fifth grade is finishing up a lesson inspired by a lesser known Cubist painter named Lyubov Popova

Lyubov Popova was born to a wealthy textile merchant near Moscow, Russia in 1889. Her parents loved the Arts and taught her to truly appreciate creative expression of all kinds, especially Italian Renaissance painting. She started formal art lessons at the age of 11 and by 18 she was studying under well-known artists of the time.

She trained to be a teacher before traveling all over Europe to meet more famous artists and was really inspired by the Cubist and Futurist movements in Italy and France.

Lyubov started creating her own avant-garde paintings and described her style as, "painterly architectonics." Here's some of her work!

Eventually, Popova followed in her father's footsteps and began to design some very cool textiles. Look at all the lines, shapes, and colors in these fabrics:

Unfortunately for us, Lyubov contracted scarlet fever in 1924 and died prematurely at the young age of 35. Her work lives on in London at the Tate and at both the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim in New York.

Stay tuned to the blog for Art Club news and other updates. Have a great weekend!
